Full Charge Bookkeeper

Job Description

A rapidly growing northern NJ service company is seeking a full charge bookkeeper.

Using QuickBooks, this position will be responsible for full-cycle accounting requiring an ability to juggle several tasks at once. These include managing all aspects of the general ledger, accounts receivable, accounts payable, invoicing, handling payroll information, credit card statements, bank accounts, cash flow and financial analysis.

The work spans 3 companies and several individual divisions. Additional duties include answering phones and various special projects. The companies currently employ approximately 42 employees and the business office is in Bloomingdale, NJ, right off Rt 287 at exit 55.

A strong knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles is required. The right candidate will be able to work independently for days at a time and should be able to organize work projects without difficulty. This position is critical to the organization and you must be an honest, conscientious worker prepared to show up every day.

Candidates for this position must have extensive experience with payroll, financial statements, bank reconciliation, and general bookkeeping. Excellent communication abilities are required. Advanced knowledge of computer software, particularly QuickBooks and Microsoft Office, is essential. At least a bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, or business is preferred.

The job is extremely hands-on and detail-oriented, with a great deal of responsibility. The ideal candidate must be responsible and self-reliant. The ability to present information to the owners and coworkers is critical. An individual in this role must be able to define problems distinctly, collect data accurately, establish reliable facts, and draw valid conclusions.

Overtime work is not generally required although there may be short periods of time where it could be required.



  • Obtain primary financial data for accounting records

  • Compute and record numerical data

  • Check the accuracy of business transactions

  • Perform data entry and administrative duties

  • Create all invoices and handle collections efforts



  • Previous experience in accounting, finance, or other related fields

  • Fundamental knowledge of GAAP

  • Ability to prioritize and multitask

  • Strong organizational skills

  • Deadline and detail-oriented


This position will report directly to the Office Manager with daily interactions with both the President and CEO.

The normal work day is 8:30AM until 5:00PM.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
